Symposium Venue
The symposium will be held in the oldest building of the University of Liege, which was erected just a few years after its creation in 1817 and currently serves as its headquarters. It is located on Place du 20 Août right in the city center and close to the old town and major tourist attractions.
The lectures will take place in the Aula Magna, a neoclassical hemicycle with a vast two-story gallery supported by Ionic and Corinthian columns covered in gilding. The ceiling consists of a half-dome decorated with stucco and rosette motifs. Numerous niches house statues including those of Athena and Mercury. Above the tribune, an elegant grisaille, the work of the painter Alexandre Rifflaert, represents William of Orange offering a young graduate guided by Minerva a laurel crown held out by Justice. Completed in 1824, the academic hall underwent a remarkable restoration in 2005 and is listed in the exceptional heritage of Wallonia.
The poster sessions and the coffee breaks will be organized in the Faculty Room on the 1st floor of the building, next to the Aula Magna.
